Tastingnotes from Mark Newton (Whisky Magazine)
Nose : Sweet peat and bright jammy fruits. Strawberry jam, blackberries. The peat returns – ashier, with tobacco. Brilliant mustiness, cardboard or old cellars. Sandalwood.
Palate : Same intense strawberry or blackberry jam and peat trade-off. Dark fruits explode. Cigars with port or sherry. Thick and dry. A bruiser!
Finish : Tart, tannic, ashy, tobacco, yet with enticing winey sweetness. Lingering ash for an endless finale.
Comment : Outrageous, intensely flavoured, yet somehow well balanced.

This alluring, well aged single malt whisky from Bowmore Distillery, with its initial well rounded smoky timbre and familiar Islay notes, has been enhanced by additional maturation in a first growth Château Latour wine barrique from the famous vineyard in Bordeaux. It imparts base notes of abundant wine fruits, which combine with the traditional peaty medicinal aromas associated with Islay malts. Starting with a pleasing charcoal dryness on the tongue, the evocative flavours of Christmas cake, dried fruits, spices and leather develop across the palate, all graced with berry influences from the Latour cask. Together this ensemble transforms to a buttery consistency that slowly departs.

Nose : A really interesting nose here it’s floral and reminiscent of a sweet dessert wine on the nose but with chalky edges and hints of burnt toast, a sweet mixed fruit jam note rounds it off.
Palate : Full bodied and viscous with a thick jam like mouthfeel and initial taste then some burnt toast and light wood smoke, a juiciness and fruity note mixes with a gentle mixed spice to give nice balance.
Finish : Tangy, spicy, still on the palate a few minutes later
