Bunnahabhain distillery

The Bottler

Cumbrae specialises in the handling and bottling of Single Cask Scotch Malt Whiskies. We have our own brand of ‘The Golden Cask’ which we are currently selling to Austria, France, The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Italy with new markets in Finland and also Belgium (imported by Le Chemin des Vignes – La Boutique du Chemin).
The Golden Cask range is high end, aged single casks bottled at cask strength. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away.
We bottle with care without chill filtering in order to retain the characteristic aromas and flavour in full.
The Golden Cask bottlings are aimed at the connoisseur and collector. We work with John McDougall, whisky expert, who assists us in choosing our casks and deciding when to bottle them. His help has been invaluable to the growth of our business.
We aim to provide a unique product of finest quality at a sensible price.

Islay, Isle of

The island of Islay (pronounces Eye-La), the most southerly of all the Hebrides, lies on the east coast of Kintyre.
It is flat, green and largely composed of peat (water on the island is brown with it mixed with peat). The harsh winter winds push the salty clouds far on the island, allowing the peat to soak in water, which is again dried by salty breezes of the sea. All these features make the charm of whiskeys from Islay, of great importance for some and less for others.
It has undoubtedly a privileged position in the world of whisky. The island has nine distilleries in activity and is carried by many whisky’s specialists as an autonomous region. It still remains parts of the installation of two other distilleries, such as warehouses, or in one case, an oven. In the best of times, there were here nearly 26 distilleries.
