(94.5 = Superstar whiskies that give us all a reason to live.) nose 22 nougat and raisin, elsewhere there are slightly bizarre hints of marmite and liquorice; taste 24 excellent delivery sporting a silky sheen to the barley and then a powering spice-bite to the sherry; some beautiful oils attempt to confuse the two camps but there is enough tension between the juicy barley and ever-thickening fruit to ensure the taste buds are kept working overtime; finish 24.5 sheer Melton Hunt Cake roastiness to the fruit. The spices fizz around the palate with abandon. The oils intensify and ensure the molassed sugars carry on for an almost ridiculous amount of time.Drying vanillas soon arrive; balance 24 a sulphur-free spicefest. Wonderfull. (Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2013)

Glenrothes distillery

Speyside
The Speyside is a region that forms a core within the Highlands and that stretches along the Spey River. It goes even further, far beyond the lands of the Spey. Thus, the distilleries placed along Livet, Fiddich, Avon, Lossie, Findhorn and Deveron are also considered as a part of the Speyside. As it is not a geological unit, the boundaries of that region have never been set and sometimes, one could argue about the region from which a distillery comes from. According to the way we establish the boundaries, 63 of the 90 distilleries still in operation in Scotland are in the Speyside.
